چکیده

We report results from a highly versatile and scalable raster-scanned continuous wave CO2 laser heater incorporating a dual wavelength photodiode-based temperature monitoring system with feedback control. The system is able to uniformly heat substrates inside a vacuum chamber, reduce the occurrence of substrate fracture and allow almost negligible heat loss to the deposition chamber and surroundings. The minimum achievable temperature difference across the substrate is, in practice, limited by the fastest achievable raster scan speed. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S0034-6748~00!01311-3#

Design and performance of a ZnSe tetra-prism for homogeneous substrate heating using a CO2 laser for pulsed laser deposition experiments.

We report on the design and performance of a ZnSe tetra-prism for homogeneous substrate heating using a continuous wave CO(2) laser beam in pulsed laser deposition experiments. We discuss here three potential designs for homogenizing prisms and use ray-tracing modeling to compare their operation to an alternative square-tapered beam-pipe design. A square-pyramidal tetra-prism design was found t...

Evaluation of Temperature Rise and Thermal Lesion Dimensions in Liver Laser Interstitial Thermotherapy

Introduction:  Laser  interstitial  thermotherapy  (LITT)  is  an  internal  ablation  therapy  method  consisting of a percutaneous or intraoperative insertion of laser fibers directly into the liver tumor with  maximum diameter of 5 cm. In this treatment method, there isn’t any general information about the  relationship  between  increasing  the  exposure  power,  coagulation  and  carboniza...

Improving the Thermal Characteristics of Semiconductor Lasers Using a New Asymmetric Waveguide Structure

Self-heating leads to a temperature rise of the laser diode and limits the output power and efficiency due to increased loss and decreased differential gain. To control device self-heating, it is required to design the laser structure with a low optical loss, while the heat flux must spread out of the device efficiently. In this study, a new asymmetric waveguide design is proposed and th...

Laser Soldering of Rat Skin Using a Controlled Feedback System

Introduction: Laser tissue soldering using albumin and indocyanine green dye (ICG) is an effective technique utilized in various surgical procedures. The purpose of this study was to perform laser soldering of rat skin under a feedback control system and compare the results with those obtained using standard sutures. Material and Methods: Skin incisions were made over eight rats’ dorsa, which w...

Heating dynamics of CO2-laser irradiated silica particles with evaporative shrinking: measurements and modeling

The heating dynamics of CO2-laser heated micron-sized particles were determined for temperatures <3500K measured using infrared imaging. A coupled mass and energy conservation model is derived to predict single particle temperatures and sizes, which were compared to data from particles deposited on non-absorbing substrates to assess the relevant heat transfer processes. Analysis reveals substra...
